It is far too easy to bemoan the deepening shallowness of the American Pop Culture, but if an admittedly-shallow survey of what makes the American Teenage Girl scream and spend money is any gauge, then there is hope. It’s a survey based on male pop stars and how they look. And how it seems they’ve looked for a way long time.
However badly it seems, the culture hasn’t appreciably deteriorated in forty years.
Proof one is the American Teenage Girl’s inexplicable yet consistent adoration of the Bubblegum Idol with the flop hairstyle.
Though Davey Jones from the Monkees and Bobby Sherman did little to stem the worsening Vietnam War or lengthening gas lines in the 1970s, they serve as reassuring counterpoint to Zac Efron and Justin Bieber, whose roles in winding down the U.S. presence in Afghanistan and improving economic indicators in the 2010s has yet to be determined.

Dear Carl: I would like to speak with you regarding a story I’m working on about Abraham Lincoln. I’m a reporter at the Repository newspaper in Canton, Ohio.
Thank you,
Charita Goshay
dear Carl, speaking of bubble gum and idols (kennedy for me, of course) are you interested in 2 pictures about my RFK “gum wrapper & 155 cards” collection?
In terms of owning for collection? Pretty generous of you – but god, I have way, way, way, way too much stuff already, in terms of images – trying to keep everything digital now…thank you though.
im sorry but i explain myself wrong… i dont intend to give you ownership of my 155 bubble gum RFK card collection – i intend to keep it always – what i meant was to send you pictures of it BUT that will be scanned and posted on my wall if you need them.
No worries – thanks for even the offer on the cards.
