  1. Carl: It is interesting timing for FRancis and I, as we were up at Hyde Park, NY this spring. Also, have read the book “Eleanor and Franklin” by Joseph Lash really showed their relationship, their family, and the political unity.

    Keep up the great work!

    • First of all, thank you very much for taking the time to write. I think that two days in Hyde Park is the ideal amount of time to take in not only the President’s wonderful house, but also his recently renovated Presidential Library & Museum – and then, to really understand the full context of the Roosevelts – to Val Kill, the escape and later full-time home of Eleanor Roosevelt. The Hudson River Valley – especially in late spring and early fall – is also the most magnificent part of the entire U.S. (apart from the fact that its home turf for me!) And I have to say, despite all the fantastic books that have been written about Franklin and Eleanor, both separately and jointly, Lash’s Eleanor and Franklin remains not only the standard work in terms of factual information, but also the most emotionally resonant and authentic – I think because he knew her so well and had the time to observe FDR in private. Thanks again for writing.
